CBP to Help Secure Presidential Inauguration

Press Release

WASHINGTON – U.S. Customs and Border Protection is participating in the U.S. Secret Service-led security operations in preparation and support of the 59th Presidential Inauguration.

CBP routinely contributes its unique capabilities during National Special Security Events (NSSEs), manmade and natural disasters, and other large spectator or high threat events.

One such capability is CBP’s Air and Marine Operations’ aircraft-based, downlink video streaming. This capability provides leadership on the ground a real time common operating picture of conditions within a security zone. Downlink also provides a real time damage assessment of impact areas that assist states in prioritizing response areas during disasters.

Another unique CBP capability is CBP’s Office of Field Operations’ mobile non-intrusive inspection technology. CBP can quickly scan vehicles and packages to identify potential threats before those threats can enter a security zone.

CBP is also contributing Air and Marine aircraft and smallboat crews to augment airspace and maritime security operations, as well as contributing Border Patrol agents and Field Operations officers to supplement U.S. Secret Service and U.S. Capitol Police security details.
