BISHOP, TEXAS - (News Release) Bishop Police Department Officers received new Safariland bulletproof vests to help protect them while serving the community.

Due to the technological advances in ballistic resistant materials, these new bulletproof vests are lighter and more versatile than the previous versions officers were issued, while offering increased threat protection.

These new vests were purchased utilizing 100% asset forfeiture funds, also known as “drug funds”.

These funds come from assets seized from drug dealers, drug trafficking organizations and other criminals during law enforcement investigations. Once the assets seized are determined to be proceeds of criminal activity they are forfeited and awarded by the court to the law enforcement agency that conducted the investigation. Forfeited funds can be utilized by law enforcment for training, equipment, community policing and drug awareness and prevention programs.

By utilizing drug funds to upgrade and improve the Police Department’s technology, training and equipment, it saves taxpayers money that can be used for other city programs, while ensuring the proceeds of criminal activities are diverted from the pockets of criminals and instead used to better protect and serve our community.
