BISHOP, TEXAS - (News Release) Tuesday, August 20, 2024, is the first day of school for the 2024-2025 school year and the Bishop Police Department would like to welcome back all of the Bishop CISD students and staff. BPD hopes everyone had a great summer break and is well rested and ready for an amazing new school year.

Police Officers assigned to BPD’s School Resource Officer (SRO) Unit (pictured below) will also be back on campuses throughout the school district beginning tomorrow, to help ensure a safe and secure learning environment for everyone this school year.

These dedicated law enforcement professionals with specialized training in school based law enforcement, are assigned to local schools in an effort to detect / deter criminal activity and enforce the law, while also building positive relationships with students, staff, and our community.

As everyone gears up for a safe & successful 2024-2025 school year, BPD would like to share a few important back-to-school safety tips:

Plan your route: Familiarize yourself with the best and safest way to get to and from school or bus stops. Obey traffic signals, and always use crosswalks and sidewalks when available.

Be aware of your surroundings: Whether you're walking, biking, or driving, stay alert and avoid distractions like cell phones or headphones and watch for oncoming traffic. Your safety is top priority!

Buddy system: Travel in groups when possible, especially during early morning or late afternoon hours. Remember, there's strength in numbers!

Report any suspicious activity: If you see something that doesn't seem right, don't hesitate to inform your teacher, SRO or any trusted adult. We all play a crucial role in keeping our school and community safe.

Use designated drop-off/pick-up areas: Follow the school's guidelines and utilize the designated areas to ensure a smooth flow of traffic. Safety should always come first!

The safety and well-being of our students and teachers is a top priority, and by working together, everyone can make our schools and community safer for everyone.
