Laredo BP Hosted An In-Person Tour/Briefing For The Western Hemisphere Journalists

LAREDO - (News Release) On June 20th Laredo Sector Acting Deputy Chief Patrol Agent Greg Burwell and Acting Division Chief Irma Jimenez, hosted an in-person tour/briefing for the Western Hemisphere journalists on a @ForeinPressCtr. Chief Burwell spoke to the journalists about the dangers that undocumented individuals face when crossing the border illegally. During the event, agents showcased displays depicting the dangerous human smuggling trends and tactics that include the utilization of compartments inside vehicles, the use of commercial vehicles, and the train system, to conceal humans inside grain hopper railcars.

Chief Burwell also spoke on the dangers migrants face when illegally traversing across the Rio Grande into the United States. He spoke on the harsh South Texas elements that are contributing factors that lead to the high number of rescues by Laredo Sector agents. The tour ended by providing the Western Hemisphere journalists with a window tour of the areas along the river that US Border Patrol agents work.
