RICARDO, TEXAS (News Release) - Students at Ricardo Elementary got a high-flying surprise this week as two members of the U.S. Navy’s elite flight demonstration squadron, the Blue Angels, visited campus.

Lt. Chris Houben, known as Blue Angel #3, and Aviation Machinist’s Mate 1st Class Jenna Lucas, an aircraft mechanic, spent time speaking with students about their roles and experiences with the renowned team. The visit comes just days before the Blue Angels are scheduled to perform at this weekend’s local air show.

During the visit, students learned what it takes to fly and maintain one of the military’s most advanced and recognizable aircraft. From the precision required in the cockpit to the technical expertise behind the scenes, the presentation offered a firsthand look at the teamwork and discipline that keep the squadron performing at its best.

School officials said the visit left a lasting impression on students, many of whom were eager to ask questions and learn more about careers in aviation and the military.

The school also extended appreciation to Carmen Tankersley, ICYP Director at Naval Air Station Kingsville, for coordinating the special appearance.

The Blue Angels’ performance at the Wings Over South Texas Air Show is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, April 18–19, in Kingsville.

Community members will also have a chance to meet the team ahead of the show. “Meet the Blues” is set for Friday, April 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the JK Northway Exposition Center. The free event is open to the public and will give attendees an opportunity to meet members of the Blue Angels before their weekend performances.

The Blue Angels’ upcoming performance is expected to draw large crowds as the community looks ahead to a weekend of aerial demonstrations.
