Bishop Residents Notice Change in Water Quality

BISHOP - Bishop residents may have noticed a change in their drinking water as having an earthy taste, but according to Panfilo "Bom" Flores, Public Works Director from Bishop “the change in taste and odor to the drinking water is due to a recent water source change. The Utilities Department has corrected the issue; however, residents may continue to experience a change in taste or odor for a few days until the water in the distribution system has been flushed or used. City crews are working to flush mains to quicken the process. The drinking water meets all regulatory requirements and there are no health issues associated with this change in water source. The water remains safe to use, drink, and bathe in."
Bishop receives their water from South Texas Water Authority. The Authority purchases water from the City of Corpus Christi and brings it 28 miles to Kingsville through a 42-inch water line and to western Nueces County through a smaller line. The Authority also manages the Nueces Water Supply Corporation and the Ricardo Water Supply Corporation through contracts with those entities.
The Authority sells water to seven customers – Kingsville, Bishop, Ricardo WSC, Nueces WSC, Agua Dulce, Driscoll, and Banquete.
