Bishop PD Locate Drug Paraphernalia During Traffic Stop

BISHOP (News Release) - At approximately 3:08 am on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, a Bishop Police Department Supervisory Officer assigned to the Nueces County District Attorney’s Criminal Interdiction Unit (NCDA-CIU) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for an observed transportation code violation in the area of U.S. Highway 77 South and County Road 14, in Bishop.

Upon making contact with the occupants in the vehicle, the officer on scene detected a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the interior of the vehicle. An additional unit was requested and a short time later a Nueces County Precinct 3 Constable Deputy, also assigned to the NCDA-CIU, arrived on scene to assist.

Both the driver and a front seat passenger were detained, and a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted.

During the subsequent search, officers located drug paraphernalia, a small amount of marijuana, a clear plastic bag containing a white powdry substance, suspected to be cocaine and a loaded Sig Sauer 9mm handgun.

The driver claimed ownership of all contraband located in the vehicle and all items were located within his immediate reach, care, custody and control.

The driver, an 18-year-old male from San Antonio, was arrested and later transported to the Nueces County Jail on multiple charges, to include: Possession of a Controlled Substance PG-1 (Felony 3) and Unlawful Carry of a Weapon (Class A Misdemeanor).

The passenger was identified and later released on scene.
