BISHOP, TEXAS — Bishop Independent School District has announced the cancellation of all classes today due to damages caused by high winds from last night’s severe storm.

Emergency Services responded to at least 12 calls in the area as widespread showers and thunderstorms swept through South Texas, bringing heavy rainfall and flooding. In Bishop, scattered severe thunderstorms produced damaging wind gusts and small hail, creating hazardous conditions throughout the community.

As a result of storm damage, the Bishop Police Department’s main lobby is currently closed. However, emergency services will continue to operate without interruption.

Additionally, parts of Bishop remain without power due to dozens of power lines being knocked down. Local authorities are working with utility crews to restore service as quickly and safely as possible.

District and city officials will continue to assess the situation and provide updates as needed.
