KINGSVILLE, TEXAS - American businessman and co-founder of Microsoft software, Bill Gates, was in Kingsville on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, to meet with local community leaders.

According to a social media post by the Kingsville Chamber of Commerce, “the meeting provided an opportunity for Mr. Gates to hear about 1PointFive’s Direct Air Capture (DAC) Hub and the impact that it will have on the local economy.”

The DAC Hub in Kingsville is estimated to bring 2,500 jobs to the community.

Gate said that as “an early investor in direct air capture technology, it’s super cool to see it evolve from a concept to real economic opportunity for a local community. The DAC project has been selected to receive a grant from the Department of Energy as a result of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.”

In 2022, The Department of Energy funded $3,500,000,000 to establish a program to the development of 4 regional direct air capture hubs. The hubs are to advance the technical and commercial viability in the removal of CO2 from the atmosphere. Once captured, the CO2 will be stored in a geologic formation or converted into new products.
