State Grant Will Fund Pedestrian-Bike Path Across Oso Bay

CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – The City of Corpus Christi’s Holly Road Train Trestle to Tourism Trail Project was awarded just over $13 million to connect Flour Bluff Drive and the Holly Road Hike and Bike Trails. The funding will help to construct a new ADA-accessible shared-use path and bridge across Oso Bay.
This project is one of just 83 across the state to be selected by the Texas Transportation Commission as part of the Transportation Alternative Grant Program.
“I’m so excited to share this news with our community,” Mayor Paulette Guajardo said. “The funding award is a testament to how City Planning initiatives can build the relationships and momentum to advance desired projects. I look forward to continued partnerships and encourage all my neighbors to get involved and engaged in our community planning efforts.”
The $13 million investment builds on the Flour Bluff and Southside Area Development Plans as well as significant community-driven initiatives including:
An engineering inspection sponsored by the Friends of Redhead Pond and funded by the Corpus Christi Medical Center confirming the viability of reusing the existing Oso Bay railroad trestle pilings
The Flour Bluff Citizen’s Council securing a technical assistance grant in 2021 from the National Park Service’s Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Program for the Outdoor Recreation Enhancements Program
Countless volunteer events to care for valuable outdoor recreation and natural areas
The Transportation Alternatives program supports local projects that enhance bicycle and pedestrian amenities for people of all ages and levels of ability.
