Benys to be Honored at the Star of Texas Award Ceremony

KINGSVILLE (News Release) - The State of Texas Office of the Governor informed Chief Ricardo Torres on July 20, 2022, that the service and sacrifice of Senior Patrolman Sherman Otto Benys Jr. will be honored at the 2022 Star of Texas Awards.

The Texas Legislature created the Star of Texas Awards to honor peace officers, firefighters, and emergency medical first responders who were killed or sustain serious injuries in the line of duty.

The ceremony will take place on September 9, 2022, at 10:30 am at Shoreline Church located at 15201 Burnet Rd., Austin.

Governor Abbott will present the awards to this year's nominees and their families.

Chief Torres nominated Senior Patrolman Benys for the Star of Texas Award to honor his service and sacrifice.
