Corpus Christi Police Department & Bishop Police Department

CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) - On Monday, May 15, 2023, the Bishop Police Department, Corpus Christi Police Department, Nueces County Sheriff’s Office, Port of Corpus Christi Police Department, Nueces County Constables Offices and other area Law Enforcement agencies, gathered at the Nueces County Courthouse Fallen Heroes Memorial for the annual Regional Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony.

This year, 556 new names of fallen heroes are being added to National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, including 224 officers killed in 2022 and 332 officers killed in previous years, but whose stories of sacrifice had been lost to history until now.

The names of all 556 fallen officers nationwide will be formally dedicated during the 35th Annual Candlelight Vigil to be held on the National Mall in Washington, DC, on May 13, 2023.

As part of the observance, the Nueces County Sheriff's Office paid tribute to the fallen officers during the Regional Police Memorial Ceremony on Monday, May 15, 2023, at the Nueces County Fallen Hero’s Memorial located at 901 Leopard St., from 9:00 a.m. - 10 a.m., just outside the Nueces County Courthouse.

"The Nueces County Fallen Heroes Memorial Wall displays the names of 28 fallen officers from four different agencies in Nueces County. This memorial wall and the upcoming event are part of National Police Week where we honor those officers’ legacies. We hope to demonstrate to their families and the community that local law enforcement will never forget the service and sacrifice made by their loved ones,” said Sheriff J. C. Hooper. "Please join me in remembering and honoring our fallen heroes while also supporting those officers who continue to protect and serve the great community of Nueces County."
