Family Place Library™ at Hopkins Public Library Now Open
City of Corpus Christi
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – (News Release) The Owen R. Hopkins Public Library, located at 3202 McKinzie Road, now offers a free Family Place Library™ to families with children to age three. Adopting the national Family Place Libraries™ model, the program is designed to transform libraries into vibrant community centers for early literacy, parent education, and family support.
The George and Barbara Bush Family Place Library™ was made possible by a $25,000 grant awarded to the Friends of Corpus Christi Public Libraries from 1PointFive, a carbon removal and storage company, and the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation. Together, they have underwritten the purchase of resources for the various Family Place Library™ components and staff training.
The program will establish a dedicated area in the library for children and their caregivers to play, learn, and develop together. This space will feature a variety of books, educational toys, and sensory art activities for exploration.
In addition, library staff will be certified to conduct family literacy workshops to enhance brain development and early literacy success. Families can socialize, connect with other families, and interact with community resource professionals one-on-one.
The Hopkins Public Library becomes the second Corpus Christi public library to introduce a Family Place Library™, now joining the Ben F. McDonald Public Library.
