3/27/25-FLASH FLOOD IN EFFECT. Abundant Gulf moisture combined with a slow moving storm system will bring the potential for multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms, some with very heavy rainfall. The rain will continue tonight through Friday morning before ending. Given the hard dry soil from the lack of rainfall over the past several months, there is a potential for this heavy rain to quickly run off producing flash flooding.

CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) - The Corpus Christi – Nueces County Public Health District will be offering first and second dose Moderna vaccine at today’s vaccination clinics. This comes after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) calls for a pause in using the Johnson and Johnson vaccine as they examine safety issues.

The Health District recently received one shipment of 3,000 Johnson and Johnson vaccines and in the last week, 1,160 women were vaccinated.

“I am waiting for further guidance from the Department of State Health Services and until then, I am pausing the use of Johnson and Johnson until further notice,” said Public Health Director Annette Rodriguez. “This in no way will affect the grand opening today of our new La Palmera Mall COVID-19 vaccination clinic which will offer first and second dose Moderna and Pfizer vaccines.”

Today the Health District opened a new vaccination location at La Palmera Mall located at 5488 South Padre Island Drive (SPID). There will be no cost for the vaccine.

The Public Health District will keep this vaccine clinic open during mall hours and will be located at the former Charming Charlie store (5488 SPID, Suite 1176), across from Grimaldi’s Pizzeria and behind P.F. Chang’s.

Mayor Paulette M. Guajardo, Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales, and City Manager Peter Zanoni continue to encourage Nueces County residents to stay on track and get vaccinated.

“Our Health District continues to follow best practices and will pause the use of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine at this time. The Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are still being administered and are effective ways to prevent COVID-19. Our goal is to continue to provide a vaccine to everyone who wants one," said Mayor Paulette Guajardo.

"We will continue our clinics with ample supplies of Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, and I strongly encourage everyone to make a plan to get vaccinated as soon as possible,” said Barbara Canales, Nueces County Judge.

“The temporary pause in one vaccine should not deter individuals from getting vaccinated,” said City Manager Peter Zanoni. “Moderna and Pfizer have a proven track record in protecting individuals from contracting the virus and ultimately keep people safe and saves lives.”
