High-Speed Pursuit Ends in Arrest; Driver Remains at Large

SINTON, TEXAS (News Release) - A traffic stop attempt early Monday morning led to a high-speed pursuit spanning multiple counties and ending with one arrest, while the driver remains at large.

According to authorities, officers with the Sinton Police Department attempted to initiate a traffic stop around 4:30 a.m. within the city. The driver failed to stop, leading officers on a pursuit that continued onto Interstate 37 toward Mathis.

Deputies, along with the Texas Department of Public Safety, pursued the vehicle into Live Oak County. The chase came to an end near mile marker 65 in the Oakville area when the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

Law enforcement agencies, including DPS, the Live Oak County Sheriff’s Office and local deputies, conducted a search of the area. Authorities apprehended a passenger, identified as 43-year-old Mark Cardenas, who was wanted out of Atascosa County on a theft of property charge.

The driver, identified as Floyd Barnes III, fled on foot and remains at large. Officials said Barnes has multiple outstanding warrants.

A female passenger and a 14-year-old child were located and released safely.

The investigation remains ongoing.
