5K Will Honor Former Public Works Director

CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – On behalf of the City of Corpus Christi and “Safe Fun-Fit at the Bayfront”, Mayor Paulette M. Guajardo invites residents of Corpus Christi to run or walk in honor of the late Richard Martinez, former Public Works Director for the City of Corpus Christi. As we remember and celebrate his life, we ask that you bring your friends and family for the 'We Run for Richard' 5K at The Water’s Edge on Saturday, November 6, at 8:00 a.m., to walk or run with Mayor Guajardo in honor of Richard Martinez. Check in begins at 7:00 a.m.
Martinez suddenly passed away on August 27. He joined the City of Corpus Christi in January 2020 and restructured Public Works while making swift progress on the city’s streets and stormwater departments. Richard Martinez was not only a loving husband, father, and grandfather, but also a devoted colleague and friend and was passionate about moving Corpus Christi forward.
To register for 'We Run For Richard' 5K with Mayor Paulette M. Guajardo, We Run for Richard 5K with Mayor Paulette M. Guajardo - 11/06/2021 - Race Information (raceentry.com) Free chip timing available. Participants will receive one card punch for participating in a fitness activity. The Most Comida Food Truck will be onsite providing 150 breakfast tacos to 5K and class participants on a first come, first serve basis starting at 8:00 a.m.
The Fitness Lane route begins along the seawall at The Water’s Edge, northbound, towards the American Bank Center with the turnaround just before the barge dock entrance. Walk, jog, run, or bike along the event’s designated 1.50-mile fitness lane (one way). Our community partner, H-E-B is providing fruit and water for all participants.
In coordination with Victor Betancourt of VFit Productions and the City’s Parks & Recreation Department, the City will offer “Safe Fun-Fit at the Bayfront” exercise and wellness events for ages 8 and older, of all abilities and skill levels, on Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. at The Water’s Edge, 402 S. Shoreline Blvd. HIGH Fitness, Zumba and Yoga will be held at the Islanders Pavilion next to the playground. The class schedule is available online.
Register Online for fitness classes and 5K at www.cctexas.com/safefunfit. Class sessions are limited to 30 participants per class. Participants are encouraged to bring their own yoga mat and water, as appropriate, for their workout.
