CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (News Release) - A sixteen-year-old male suspect has been taken into custody in connection with a shooting that injured two people Saturday evening on the 7800 block of Beauvais Drive. Detectives with the Robbery/Homicide Unit of the Criminal Investigations Division conducted an intensive investigation into the shooting, which occurred during a large teen party at a residence on that block.

The investigation revealed that the sixteen-year-old suspect was in the backyard of the residence when he attempted to rob a nineteen-year-old man of his gold chain. When the victim refused to surrender the chain, the suspect pulled a handgun from his waistband and shot the victim twice, once in the chest and once in the back. A sixteen-year-old male bystander was struck in the ankle by a stray round. The nineteen-year-old victim remains hospitalized, while the sixteen-year-old victim was treated and released. Detectives worked diligently, following multiple leads that eventually resulted in the identification of the sixteen-year-old Corpus Christi teenage boy as the shooter.

Once identified, Detectives discovered that the suspect was already wanted on a Directive to Apprehend (DTA) for Violation of Juvenile Probation on previous charges of Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle, Evading Arrest, and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon. CCPD Gang Unit officers began searching for the suspect and tracked him to Victoria, Texas.

This information was shared with the Victoria Police Department and on Monday August 4th, the Victoria Police Highway Interdiction Team located and apprehended the juvenile, who was subsequently returned to the Nueces County Juvenile Detention Center on Tuesday, August 5th. Detectives have submitted their case file to Juvenile Prosecutors for the additional charges of Aggravated Robbery and Aggravated Assault.

This case is still an active investigation and further arrests are possible. Anyone with information regarding this crime is encouraged to call the Criminal Investigation Division at (361) 826-2840.
