CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) –The City of Corpus Christi is setting higher development standards for new streets by substantially revising street design engineering specifications.

The specifications are within the City’s IDM. The IDM is a single guidance document for designers of public improvements that are conveyed to the city after construction. The updated standards will ensure that streets, curbs, gutters, and sidewalks have a longer lifecycle by having improved design and construction standards that follow best practices in Texas.

 “We know we have too many new streets in our residential subdivisions that are failing. The substantially updated and improved street design standards will protect taxpayers from repair and reconstruction costs while maintaining safe roadways for residential use,” said City Manager Peter Zanoni.

The IDM was previously updated in March of 2022. City staff continues to improve the requirements of design standards by extensively reviewing Chapter 6 of the Street Design Standards. The Engineering Services Department requests input from developers, stakeholders, and residents for Chapter 6 of the newly updated manual.

The public input period will begin today and end on October 16.
