$12.3 Million Project at Padre Island Set to Begin in April

CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – The City Council approved a contract to CSA Construction, Inc. for significant upgrades to the Whitecap Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). Initially built in 1974, located at the city’s Padre Island, the facility will undergo $12.3 million in renovations. These upgrades align with the current citywide strategy to improve the infrastructure of all six Wastewater Treatment Plants.
This project aims to repair, replace, and upgrade the old and deteriorated equipment and provide better-treated wastewater for our environment. The work scope includes repairing, replacing and upgrading the screening facility, influence lift station, aeration basin, secondary clarifiers, return activated, and waste activated sludge pumping systems, aerobic digester, and solids handling facilities.
“Your City Council is committed to long-term infrastructure improvements throughout our city,” said Mayor Paulette Guajardo. “These improvements will make a drastic positive impact on the life and functionality of the Whitecap Wastewater Treatment plant.”
The project is set to begin in April 2022 and is estimated to be completed in December 2024.
