Corpus Christi Seeking Vendors for Its Beaches & Parks

CORPUS CHRISTI – The City has great locations on its beaches and parks to operate your business. Apply now for a vendor permit before time runs out.

The Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department will begin accepting applications for vendors at its City beaches and parks beginning Wednesday, November 25, 2020, until 5 pm on Friday, December 11, 2020. Seven-month Vending Permits from March 2021 to September 2021 will be issued to vendors who qualify. There are two Cole Park and nine Gulf Beach vendor locations. In addition, vendors can also request other park locations throughout the city.

Applications will be reviewed, and if necessary, a drawing will be held to determine vendor locations if multiple vendors select the same location. Vendors will be notified after the selection has been made to issue the permits for the locations prior to the beginning of the permit period. The selected vendors are required to undergo and pass background checks prior to issuing permits. The application form and requirements are available on the City of Corpus Christi website.

Family Fun Kit Curbside Distribution

Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation Department staff will be handing out free family fun kits curbside for pick-up on Saturday, November 21.

CORPUS CHRISTI – As local children begin their fall school break many will be looking for fun at-home family activities. Parks and Recreation Department staff will be handing out free family fun kits curbside for pick-up on Saturday, November 21, at Lindale Senior Center, 3135 Swantner Drive, from 12 pm to 2 pm.

This week’s at-home activities which vary by age group, will include art & crafts kits, coloring pages, books, along with healthy snacks and juices. A limited quantity of 300 kits will be given out; one kit per person; and you must be present to receive items. The kits are for elementary age children. Kits for teens will be available upon request.

Spring Youth Basketball League

This eight-game season league will run from January 11–March 6, 2021, at the Corpus Christi Gym, 3202 Cabaniss Parkway.

CORPUS CHRISTI – Registration is now open at the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department’s Winter 2021 Youth Basketball League. The league is for girls and boys ages 6-13 (as of December 31, 2020). This eight-game season league will run from January 11–March 6, 2021, at the Corpus Christi Gym, 3202 Cabaniss Parkway.

REGISTER ONLINE now through November 29, 2020, for $80 per person at register.ccparkandrec.comLATE ONLINE REGISTRATION will be offered November 30–December 6, 2020, for a $105 late fee per person. SCHOLARSHIPS (up to 25) are available for qualifying participants with required documentation. Our computer-generated system will place players on teams, so there will not be an evaluation. Coaches are allowed only one guaranteed player on their team, their child.

Players will have the opportunity to sharpen their technical skills and challenge themselves against their opponents through weekly practice and games. The team structure will also help them develop physical, social and mental skills.

Adult Softball League

CORPUS CHRISTI – Let’s play ball! Register today for the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department’s Fall 2020 Adult Softball League. The season runs from November 16 through the week of December 14, 2020. All games for this eight-game season will be double hitters played at the Greenwood Softball Complex, located at 4501 Greenwood Drive.

The league offers four divisions with the following schedule:

  • Co-Ed Division League games for men and women will be held on Mondays.

  • Church Division League games for local church teams will be held on Mondays.

  • Men’s Division League games will be held on Thursdays.

  • Industrial Division League games for men will be held on Thursdays.

New safety protocols: As we return to play, our goal is to continue to provide the best sporting and recreational opportunities for the residents of our community. New rules include staggered games start times; no sharing of equipment, unless properly sanitized; expanded dugouts to allow for social distancing; participants not required to wear face covering while in field of play but may be worn as desired. CORPUS CHRISTI – Keep your kids busy while you cook your Thanksgiving feast and get a jump on holiday shopping. Sign them up now for activities.

The Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department will offer a three-day Thanksgiving Break Youth Basketball Camp for boys and girls ages 8-17 on November 23, 24, and 25, 2020, from 9am-1pm at the Corpus Christi Gym, 3202 Cabaniss Parkway.

Novice players will learn the basics of basketball through skills and drills. Players with experience will adjust techniques to improve their skill level. Professional instruction will be provided by local High School Basketball Coach Roy De La Pena.

New health and safety procedures have been implemented to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Face masks are required in the gym, except while playing on the court. Players will have their temperatures taken at the door prior to sign-in. One sanitized ball will be provided per participant for the whole camp session, so do not bring your own equipment. High School Varsity Basketball League Registration Is Open

The six-game season will run from September 28 through the week of October 18, 2020.

The Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department is now accepting registration for its Fall 2020 High School Varsity Basketball League. This league is for boys varsity division and girls varsity division teams. The six-game season will run from September 28 through the week of October 18, 2020. Girls will play on Mondays and Saturdays. Boys will play on Tuesdays and Saturdays. There is a limit of 12 players per team. Only the first six teams per division will be accepted, so sign up early.

New safety processes have been implemented to comply with COVID-19 prevention. Players and spectators will have their temperatures taken at the door prior to entering. The game ball, provided by the City, will be sanitized per each quarter and during timeouts. Players, including referees, on the court are not required to wear a face-covering but is optional. Physical contact, such as high fives, hugs, sitting next to each other for water breaks, etc. are not allowed. Sidelines will be expanded to provide social distancing. Participants will gain a better understanding of the game through practice and while testing their skills against other teams in the league. This structured sport also provides life skills that include teamwork, discipline, goal setting and good sportsmanship.
