VFW Roy E. Davis Post 2375 in Kingsville is proud to announce the opening of submissions for three of its premier national recognition programs: the Patriot's Pen Essay Contest, the Voice of Democracy Audio-Essay Contest, and the Teacher of the Year Award.
This year's theme for both essay contests is: How Are You Showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country?"
These programs are part of the Veterans of Foreign Wars' ongoing commitment to promoting patriotism, civic responsibility, and excellence in education.
Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest – Open to middle school students in grades 6–8, this contest encourages young people to examine America’s history, democratic ideals, and their own experiences in writing. Students are invited to submit a 300–400-word essay.
Voice of Democracy Audio-Essay Contest – Open to high school students in grades 9–12, this long-standing national program challenges students to express themselves through a recorded 3–5 minute audio essay.
Teacher of the Year Award – This program recognizes exceptional educators (grades K–12) who teach citizenship education topics regularly and promote America's history, traditions, and democratic values. Teachers who inspire and motivate students through innovative instruction are encouraged to be nominated by peers, parents, or community members.
"Through these programs, we honor the dedication of our youth and educators while fostering patriotism and civic responsibility," said Apolonio "Apple" E. Muñoz III, Adjutant/Quartermaster of VFW Post 2375. "We look forward to seeing the creativity and passion of our community reflected in this year's submissions."
All entry packets must be submitted to VFW Post 2375 by October 31, 2025.
Local winners will be recognized by VFW Post 2375 and advanced to district-level judging.
