Twelfth Annual Mexican American Studies

  • Solomon M. Coles Classroom Building 101 Baldwin Boulevard Corpus Christi, Texas, 78404 United States (map)

Food, art, literature, music, history, community involvement and even politics help shape a culture’s identity, and this year’s Mexican American Studies Summer Seminar at Del Mar College on Saturday, July 25, will continue to immerse participants in the rich contributions that the Mexican American culture provides.

This FREE full-day educational and celebratory event, which provides attendees insight into topics covered by the academic program, runs 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Solomon M. Coles Classroom Building on the Heritage Campus and includes a light breakfast and lunch for those who register online.

Presented by the DMC Mexican American Studies Program and in its 12th year, the 2026 MAS Summer Seminar includes presentations by former Corpus Christi resident and Festival Beach Food Forests co-founder Jenna Jasso, local artist Aundrea Victoria Salinas and a panel discussion covering Tejano music and its role in shaping community and identity, along with breakout sessions focused on Mexican folklore, legends and literature; resources related to Mexican American Studies at the Corpus Christi Public Library and the DMC Libraries; the Voting Rights Act; and the intersection of identity, culture, and change-making. Additionally, activities include a youth workshop held by Land Justice Community School Youth Fellows. You can learn more about the college’s Mexican American Studies Program as an academic opportunity at www.delmar.edu/mas. So, mark your calendar for the last Saturday in July to “Get more. Get MAS!” at Del Mar College and immerse yourself in a cultural learning experience right in your own backyard.
