Recycling Tips After the Holiday Season

  • Corpus Christi, Texas (map)

The Corpus Christi Solid Waste Services reports that the number of recycled materials collected for FY 2023-2024 has exceeded that of the previous year, with approximately 10,761 tons collected from October 2023 through September 2024.

Here are some helpful tips to Recycle Right:

Recyclable Items (belong in blue carts)

  • Flattened cardboard boxes.

  • Seasonal mail, greeting cards, holiday catalogs, magazines, and newspapers.

  • Tin and aluminum cans and plastic tubs for butter, cream cheese, sour cream, etc., that are empty, clean, and dry.

  • Plastic bottles with lids or caps removed.

Drop off at J.C. Elliott Transfer Station (Hwy. 286 at Ayers Street)

  • Live Christmas trees.

  • Cooking grease or peanut oil.

  • Motor oil, pesticides, paints, and cleaners.

  • Lithium batteries.

  • Tires (up to four standard tires per trip)

  • Glass bottles or containers.

  • Computers, printers, or scanners.

  • Appliances

Non-recyclable items (belong in green or brown carts)

  • Disposable C, D, and AA batteries.

  • Holiday decorations (ribbons, bows, tinsel, string lights, and ornaments).

  • Styrofoam, bubble wrap, and padded envelopes.

  • Gift boxes, wrapping paper, and holiday cards with glitter or foil.

  • Wreaths or garlands.

  • Plastic bags.

Customers should not overfill carts. Christmas trees should be set out for collection only during authorized brush or bulky set-out times.
