Private Pesticide Applicator License Training

  • Texas A&M AgriLife Extension 729 East Yoakum Avenue Kingsville, TX, 78363 United States (map)

Individuals who have an expired license or new landowners have an opportunity to attend the upcoming Private Pesticide Applicator Training.

A private pesticide applicator is defined as someone who uses or supervises the use of restricted-use or state-limited-use pesticide or regulated herbicide to produce an agricultural commodity on:

            - Personal property;

            - Rented property;

            - Property owned by his or her employer;

            - Property under his or her general control; or

            - The property of another person if applied without compensation, other than the   trading of personal services between producers of agricultural commodities.

 Many over-the-counter chemicals provide effective management, if used properly. However, a pesticide license may be required to purchase and use restricted products. The numerous rules, regulations, and laws that govern the sale and use of pesticides can be confusing.

 Individuals interested in obtaining a private applicator license must: attend a Private Applicator training, submit application for obtaining a license, and pass the Texas Department of Agriculture exam (score of 70 or better).

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Kleberg-Kenedy County will be offering a training on Friday, July 15th beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Extension Office (729 E. Yoakum). The training will be approximately three hours and will fulfill the requirements for obtaining a license. Additional information will be provided on testing and applying for licensure.

 Current pesticide license holders seeking CEUs can also attend the training.

 Anyone interested must come by the Extension Office no later than July 5th to pay ($50) for the training and to order study materials. The next training will be scheduled in the fall. For more information on the scheduled training or on which license is appropriate for your operation, please call the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Office (595-8566).
