National Fire Prevention Week is October 9 through October 15. This year’s theme, “Cooking safety starts with YOU, pay attention to fire prevention”, coincides with a donation of smoke alarms to the CCFD from the Insurance Council of Texas through a grant from State Farm.
“We can never stress cooking safety enough as so many injuries and incidents occur around the kitchen. However, we know accidents do happen, and when they happen, we want to ensure every home has a working smoke detector,” Fire Chief Brandon Wade said.
To ensure fire safety in the home and while cooking, residents are reminded to:
Test smoke alarms once a month
Install new batteries in smoke alarms once a year
Replace smoke alarms every ten years
Ensure all smoke alarms are installed high on a wall or ceiling
Smoke alarms should be installed in every bedroom outside each sleeping area and on every level of the home, including the basement
