Nature Camp at South Texas Botanical Gardens

  • South Texas Botanical Gardens 8545 South Padre Island Drive Corpus Christi, TX, 78412 United States (map)

The South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center has received a two-year Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) CO-OP grant (Community Outdoor Outreach Program), providing 60 need-based scholarships for week-long, half-day KIDS SUMMER NATURE CAMPS in June and July. The grant also assists with equipment, supplies, and extra staffing.

Seven camp sessions for ages 6 to14 are designed with exciting animal interactions and engaging nature activities in a safe environment—placing youth in “nature’s laboratory!” Led by Education and Animal Care staff and trained volunteers, the varied-theme summer camps split into pods of 10 or less, learning together the entire week. Activities include daily science investigations, nature models and journaling. Camp shirt, snacks and drinks are provided.

Roughly half the educational activities are in outdoor exhibits or trail areas. Campers should BRING a water bottle, hat, and extra snack; and WEAR sunscreen, comfortable, cool clothing, and close-toed shoes.

Non-scholarship openings have been filled; a waiting list is available. Direct questions and scholarship application requests to brendae@stxbot.org, 361-852-2100, extension 223.
