In honor of the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, Project H.O.P.E will be giving out medication disposal pouches. Locations will be at Kleberg Bank in Kingsville on Wednesday April 21st from 11am to 1pm and the Boys and Girls Club of Alice on Friday April 23rd from 5pm to 6pm. Designated disposal sites are limited in rural areas and while both counties have a medication disposal box in their local police departments, Project H.O.P.E is offering an additional option on this national event day. Taking the time to clean out medicine cabinets and dispose of unwanted, unused, and expired medications, can help prevent medication errors and even possible drug misuse. Disposing of medication properly is an important component of medication safety. Project H.O.P.E. is rooted and grounded in connecting communities to the chance of participating in healthy lifestyle choices and decision making. Project HOPE, is a community coalition at the Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation, aiming to address the use and misuse of alcohol, prescription drugs, and tobacco in Kleberg and Jim Wells County. Project HOPE’s purpose is to encourage community mobilization to implement evidence-based environmental strategies with the primary focus on changing polices and social norms in communities to prevent and reduce substance abuse.
