March is Women’s History Month. To celebrate, Del Mar College’s Music Department presents a concert of music by women composers at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 1, in conjunction with the First Friday Concert Series at First United Methodist Church.
The performance features retired DMC faculty member and pianist Alene Burch and current Music faculty pianist Shao-Shan Chen, flutist Joy Kaires and cellist Susan Sturman. The performers will present works by Nadia Boulanger, Cécile Chaminade, Louise Farrenc, Eugénie Rocherolle and Clara Schumann. Prior to the concert, attendees are invited to view a display of works by DMC Art Program faculty Amorette Garza-Morales and Kerstin Jones-Dale in the entryway Narthex. The performance is free and open to the public.
