Learn how to be a lifeguard. The City of Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department will be offering two Lifeguard Certification Courses during the fall-winter season at the Corpus Christi Natatorium, located at 3202 Cabaniss Parkway.
The first Lifeguard Certification Course will be held November 12 – November 14, 2021. The class will meet on Friday, November 12, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and continue Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The course may require an additional day if all training is not completed on schedule.
The second Lifeguard Certification Course will be held Monday–Thursday, December 20 – December 23, 2021, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The course may require an additional day if all training is not completed on schedule.
This American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Course teaches the duties and responsibilities of lifeguards to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies and procedures to be carried out in a professional manner. It certifies participants in Lifeguarding/First Aid, CPR/AED for Lifeguards, Oxygen Administration, and Bloodborne Pathogens Training. Students must be at least 15 years old and pass the skill test held before the class. Pre-requisite skills are as follows: the ability to complete a 300-yard swim with face in the water, treading water for two minutes, and retrieving a brick from the bottom of the pool.
