Janet F. Harte Public Library Update

  • Janet F. Harte Public Library 2629 Waldron Road Corpus Christi, TX, 78418 United States (map)

The City of Corpus Christi and the Flour Bluff Independent School District (FBISD) are committed to maintaining a safe and secure campus for all students and staff.

In accordance with Texas Education Code 61.1031, all school districts are required to secure building entry points and restrict public access during the instructional day. The Janet F. Harte Library, a shared facility between FBISD and the City, has updated its operations to meet legal requirements and enhance campus safety.

This collaboration has led to a mutual agreement to adjust the operating hours of the Janet F. Harte Library during regular school hours and the summer school session. The Harte Library is located on the Flour Bluff High School campus at 2629 Waldron Road in City Council District 4. It also serves FBISD students during school hours and city library patrons in the same location.

Starting Monday, August 11, 2025, the City will modify the operating schedule for public library use at the Harte Library. The weekly hours of operation will be reduced from 44 to 28, with new public access hours added on Tuesday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. There is no change to the schools' operating hours.

The following table outlines the revised City operating hours for the Harte Library.

The established and continued 25-year partnership between the City and FBISD has been mutually beneficial. Both entities are dedicated to enforcing enhanced safety and security protocols.

These adjustments are necessary to ensure full compliance with state law and to secure the high school campus throughout the school day, ultimately fostering a secure and conducive learning environment.

Patrons requiring library services outside the updated Harte Library hours are encouraged to visit:

Dr. Clotilde P. Garcia Public Library, 5930 Brockhampton Street (District 5)

Anita & W.T. Neyland Public Library, 1230 Carmel Parkway (District 2)
