Returning to his roots, Del Mar College’s Music Department welcomes Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D., who is President of St. Joseph’s University in New York, for a guest piano recital on Thursday, Oct. 23, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Wolfe Recital Hall on the Heritage Campus.
The program includes works by Chopin and Rachmaninoff as well as Dr. Boomgaarden’s original compositions. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, he also attended the University of Vienna as a Fulbright Scholar. An experienced concert pianist who has performed in Europe and the United States, Dr. Boomgaarden is also the author of numerous scholarly articles on music, along with a book covering 18th century music and aesthetics. A graduate of Richard King High School, he also attended Del Mar College and studied piano with Blaise Montandon and composition with William Schroeder. His guest piano recital is also a special part of Richard King High School’s celebration during the Class of 1972 reunion.
