Free Genealogy Workshops

Genealogy, the study of tracing family history using historical records, online databases, and oral interviews, can help people better understand their cultural identity. The La Retama Central Library and Friends of Corpus Christi Public Libraries invite the community to free genealogy workshops on Friday, October 20, from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at La Retama Central Library, 805 Comanche Street. The free workshops range from beginner to advanced.

There will be in-house, pre-recorded, and virtual sessions. For those unable to join in person, a virtual option will be available by calling the library at 361-826-7001 in advance.

Light refreshments will be provided; however, participants may bring their own food into the library.

  • 12:00 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. – Genealogy Basics: Start Searching for Your Ancestors Today

  • 1:30 p.m. to 2:20 p.m. - Tame the Chaos Tiger: Organize Your Records and Research

  • 2:30 p.m. to 3:20 p.m. – Uncover Your Family’s Story Using the Periodical Source Index (PERSI)

  • 3:30 p.m. to 4:20 p.m. – Visiting the Hill College Texas Heritage Museum

  • 4:30 p.m. to 5:20 p.m. – Linking the Generations with Court and Land Records

  • 5:30 p.m. to 6:20 p.m. – Checking on Czech Immigrants to the United States

  • 6:30 p.m. to 7:20 p.m. – Placing Your DNA Matches on Your Tree

  • 7:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. – Secrets to Successful Writing & Publishing
