  • Joseph A. Cain Memorial Art Gallery 101 Baldwin Boulevard Corpus Christi, TX, 78404 United States (map)

First established at Del Mar College in 1966, the annual juried National Drawing and Small Sculpture Show features two- and three-dimensional works from some of the most creative contemporary American artists from across the United States.

For the 58th Annual National Drawing and Small Sculpture Show, a record 792 artworks were submitted for consideration with 53 selected for the exhibition, including 25 sculptures and 28 “2D” media, by juror and sculptor Mark H. Cowardin, who teaches at Johnson County Community College in Kansas. The College’s Art and Drama Department will open the national show with a free evening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, in the Joseph A. Cain Memorial Art Gallery on the Heritage Campus.

The reception includes a cash bar and catering by Citrus Bistro. The 2024 national show represents 50 artists from Texas, including four form Corpus Christi, and 17 other states across the country. For nearly 60 years, purchase awards by the DMC Art Program and the William F. White, Jr. Library have built an impressive permanent collection at Del Mar College. During the opening reception, the selection for the College’s permanent collection will be announced.

The national show closes May 1. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 9 a.m. to noon on Fridays. The exhibit is free.
