Del Mar College alumnus and author Bret Anthony Johnston returns to the Sparkling City by the Sea to read from his latest novel, “We Burn Daylight,” at a free reading presented by the Corpus Christi Literary Reading Series at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Art Museum of South Texas.

A Corpus Christi native, Johnston graduated from King High School and was a student at Del Mar College in the early 1990s. He earned degrees from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and is a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. Johnston is the author of the internationally best-selling novel “Remember Me Like This,” which was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year, a Barnes and Noble Discover Great New Writers selection and the winner of the 2015 McLaughlin-Esstman-Stearns Prize. He is also the author of the multi-award-winning collection titled “Corpus Christi: Stories” and was the writer of the documentary film, “Waiting for Lightning.” Johnston is currently the Director of the Michener Center for Writers at The University of Texas at Austin.
