City of Corpus Christi Establishes 2027 Tax Rate

  • City of Corpus Christi Corpus Christi, Texas United States (map)

Corpus Christi City Council voted to propose a maximum ad valorem tax rate of no more than $0.599774 per $100 valuation for Fiscal Year (FY) 2027, which also serves as Tax Year 2026.

The Texas Tax Code mandates a record vote because the proposed property tax rate is anticipated to exceed the no-new-revenue tax rate. This record vote establishes the absolute ceiling for the tax rate that the City Council may adopt.

The City Council retains the authority to adopt a final tax rate lower than $0.599774 per $100 valuation, but cannot adopt a higher rate without conducting a subsequent record vote.

Public Hearing and Adoption Schedule

  • September 1, 2026: Public hearings for the proposed FY 2027 budget and proposed FY 2027 ad valorem tax rate, alongside the first reading of ordinances.

  • September 8, 2026: Formal adoption of the FY 2027 budget and FY 2027 ad valorem tax rate.

Property taxes will be charged in October, following the adoption of the final tax rate and processing of property tax bills by the Nueces County Tax Office.
