The Del Mar College annual national art show attracts two- and three-dimensional artwork from all over the country, and on Friday, Feb. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. the college’s Art Program with the Art and Drama Department will host an opening reception in the Joseph A. Cain Memorial Art Gallery in the Heritage Campus Fine Arts Center for what is now called the CAIN National Art Show.
Now marking its 59th year, the CAIN National Art Show is an exhibit featuring two- and three-dimensional work of contemporary artists from across the country that’s curated by a guest juror of national stature.
This year’s show attracted 1,020 entries with 66 selected for exhibition, including 38 drawings, 26 sculptures and two in digital media. Additionally, the Art Program purchases two sculptures (3-D) and one drawing (2-D) for their Permanent Collection each year, and those winners will be announced during the event.
The opening reception includes a cash bar and complimentary catered food. Both the reception and exhibit are free and open to the public. The CAIN National Art Show runs through Friday, April 25, with gallery hours Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 9 a.m. to noon on Fridays. Cain Gallery will be closed during Del Mar College’s Spring Break, which is March 10-15.
