Every year, the juror of Del Mar College’s annual national art show, now known as the CAIN National Art Show, provides an Artist Talk the week of the opening of the exhibit held by the Art Program with the Art and Drama Department.

This year’s juror, Alejandro Macias, will deliver a lecture covering his artwork, perspectives and insights as an artist at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, in Richardson Performance Hall on the college’s Heritage Campus. Originally from Brownsville, Texas, Macias has received numerous awards and recognitions, including prestigious residencies at Vermont Studio Center, The Studios at MASS MoCA and most recently at Uncool Artist in Brooklyn, New York.

Macias was recently honored with the Lehmann Emerging Artist Award and has held solo exhibitions at the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts, Presa House Gallery, Tucson Museum of Art and Latch-Key Gallery in New York City. Currently, he serves as an Assistant Professor of Painting and Drawing at the University of Arizona School of Art in Tucson.

As this year’s CAIN National Art Show juror, Macias selected 66 works out of the 1,020 submitted entries with the exhibit including 38 drawings, 26 sculptures and two in digital media. The Artist Talk is free and open to the public.
