KINGSVILLE (News Release) – The Kingsville Police Department is investigating the case of a patrolman shot in the line of duty this afternoon. At approximately 5:09 p.m., police received a call of an apparent domestic dispute, involving a firearm, in progress on North Wanda Drive. Several officers responded to the call and during their response, a veteran officer was shot in the line of duty.

Police responding to the call aided the injured officer, while other officers began pursuit of the fleeing suspect. Kingsville police chased the suspect to the intersection of S 11th Street and Miller Avenue where officers apprehended their suspect. The Department of Public Safety is also investigating a crash that may be related to this incident.

The investigations into the domestic violence call, the shooting that resulted in the injury of a Kingsville Police Officer and the police chase are underway tonight. The Texas A&M University-Kingsville Police Department, Kleberg County Sheriffs Office, County Attorney Task Force, Texas Rangers and DPS are assisting in the investigations.

The injured officer has served the citizens of Kingsville and the Kingsville Police Department for 19 years. He has been airlifted to a Corpus Christi hospital where he is currently being treated for a gunshot wound. Kingsville Police ask the community to keep the injured officer and his family in their prayers.
