COASTAL BEND, TEXAS (News Release) - The Coastal Bend has received the latest update on Hurricane Beryl from the National Weather Service. Recent trajectory models have shown that Hurricane Beryl has shifted northward, increasing the likelihood of impact on the Southern Texas coast. Beryl is currently moving West-North-West 18 mph and is expected to reach the Yucatan Peninsula late tonight into early Friday morning.

Storm Beryl is expected to intensify in the coming days, posing a greater risk of stronger tropical storm force winds, coastal flooding, and the potential development of tornadoes. The earliest arrival of tropical-storm-force winds could be Sunday afternoon. Dangerous rip currents and tidal runup along the coast are expected today through the weekend, making swimming conditions hazardous.

Due to forecasted coastal flooding from Hurricane Beryl, overnight camping at all city of Corpus Christi’s maintained Gulf beaches is prohibited Saturday, July 6, through Monday, July 8.

The City of Corpus Christi will be handing out sandbag at the City Service Center, located at 5352 Ayers Street on Friday, July 5. The event will occur at 8:00 a.m. and continue until all available bags have been given out.
