City of Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Starting Monday, January 13, 2025, the Corpus Christi - Nueces County Public Health District (CCNCPHD) TB Clinic will discontinue its non-essential occupational tuberculosis (TB) screening services.

Non-essential occupational TB screenings are intended for low-risk individuals who do not exhibit any signs or symptoms and who are seeking a TB test for employment, school admission, or foster care.

This decision aims to concentrate efforts on patient care for individuals with active TB disease and latent TB infection in Nueces County.

Reported cases of TB have increased from 4 in 2020 to 17 in 2024 and are expected to continue to increase in the coming years.

The Texas Department of State Health Services, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Tuberculosis Coalition of America have also recommended that Public Health Districts in Texas shift their focus toward TB elimination efforts, contact tracing, and directly observed therapy for patients with active TB.

Clients requesting occupational TB screenings will be referred to local providers for further assistance.

Occupational TB screenings are available through local providers that include:

  • Any Lab Test Now

  • The Doctors Center

  • Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Student Health Center (TAMUCC students only)

The TB program will continue to provide testing for the following individuals:

  • Children aged 4 and under who have a positive TB test

  • Children aged 5 and older who are at risk for TB exposure and have a positive TB screening test

  • Individuals with confirmed or suspected diagnosis of TB disease

  • Individuals reported through the Electronic Disease Notification system
