Job Description:

• Be the area’s leading voice in high school sports coverage for the Coastal Bend.

• Follow the story, not the sports schedule. Coverage should set the stage, highlight top performers, tell stories of participants, coaches and families overcoming adversity and tell the story behind the story for great plays, championship teams and successful coaches and athletes.

• Connect with the community through social media, including Instagram stories.

• Craft coverage based on audience interest.

• Shoot still photos for online videos and photo galleries.

• Video editing a plus but not required. Video aspects may include live coverage, sound bites and B-roll for stories.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred but not necessary

• This is an entry-level position, but 1-2 years' reporting/newsroom experience is preferred.

• Adept at taking photos and video and the ability to file quickly across platforms: mobile, desktop and social media.

• Strong copy-editing skills and the ability to produce content that is clean, accurate and "publication ready."

• Passionate and enthusiastic about news and content that will work well with audiences on social platforms.

• Ability to multitask and make snap decisions in the field during fluid situations.

• Comfortable using social media such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to enhance reporting and promote stories.

• Understands reporting ethics and sourcing.

• Excels in a fast-paced news environment and understands the digital first mission.

• Able to work occasional late nights or weekends as needed by the news cycle.

• Valid driver’s license and good driving record required (proof of insurance and liability coverage may be required)
