Packages containing 114 pounds of methamphetamine seized by CBP officers at Hidalgo International Bridge.

HIDALGO (News Release) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo International Bridge seized $2,280,000 worth of alleged methamphetamine discovered in a pickup truck driven by an Edinburg man.

“Great teamwork and commitment to the CBP border security mission is what motivates our officers to continue this endeavor of keeping dangerous drugs from crossing our borders. This seizure illustrates CBP’s ongoing effort to secure our borders at ports of entry and prevent this poison from inflicting further harm on our communities,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas.

CBP officers working at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge on April 13, 2021 encountered a 20-year-old male United States citizen driving a white Ford Ranger pickup arriving from Mexico. Officers referred him and the truck for a more complete examination which included the utilization of a non-intrusive imaging system inspection and the result was the discovery of 24 packages of alleged methamphetamine concealed within the truck’s tires. The packages weighed 114 pounds (51.72 kg).

CBP OFO seized the narcotics, the vehicle and arrested the driver who was subsequently turned over to the custody of agents with Homeland Security Investigations as they continue with the investigation.
