CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – The City Council adopted a new Historic Preservation Plan that will guide future historic preservation efforts.  The city adopted its first preservation plan in 1976 and last updated it in 2004.

The new plan recommends ways to use historic preservation as a resource for property owners and support economic development, tourism, improved property values, neighborhoods, and downtown revitalization.

Input from completed surveys, three public meetings, and stakeholder interviews was used in creating the new plan.  The plan’s goals include increasing city capacity for historic preservation, enabling community-driven preservation, and supporting preservation as an economic development tool.  Numerous strategies and best practices are illustrated throughout the plan.

The plan was funded with a matching Certified Local Government Grant from the National Park Service, administered by the Texas Historical Commission.
