CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) - The City of Corpus Christi launched the new Neighborhood Services Department. The department will unify the existing Animal Care Services, Code Enforcement, Grant Monitoring, and Homeless Services & Workforce Housing divisions into one new department. Though the divisions maintain similar issues to address, they were formerly housed in three separate departments. The purpose of the merger is to increase efficiency and reduce redundancy in service administration.
“Your City Council and I are working hard to provide our residents with the highest quality of living. This collaboration will make it easier for our neighborhoods to access city services more efficiently. We are working to provide the best possible service to our residents,” says Mayor Paulette M. Guajardo.
The Neighborhood Services Department will provide new signature programs for the community to include minor residential repair assistance, in-fill housing development, and mobile pet licensing and microchipping.
The Neighborhood Services Department mission is to enhance our citizens’ quality of life by consolidating neighborhood services under one department to promote and support neighborhood sustainability, growth, and safety.
“Since leading the organization two years ago, it has been apparent to me that in some areas, we were organized as if we were a small town. We are not. Corpus Christi is the eighth-largest city in Texas. This reorganization adds focus to our neighborhoods while coordinating our business practices parallel to other big Texas cities. The Department of Neighborhood Services will play an instrumental role in bringing current and new services to the community in a more comprehensive and cohesive manner,” says City Manager Peter Zanoni.
The department will bring lasting improvement to the appearance, safety, and stability of our neighborhoods by connecting residents to services, promoting long-term property maintenance, and fostering revitalization.
No additional staff will be added as part of the reorganization. The new department will be staffed with a total of 90 full-time employees and operate on a $30 million budget.
