CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – In recognition of the services and important contributions Public Works professionals make towards improving our quality of life whilst protecting our national health and safety, Mayor Paulette M. Guajardo proclaimed the week of May 16 – 22, 2021 as “National Public Works Week,” sponsored by the American Public Works Association (APWA).

This year’s theme is “Stronger Together,” which challenges communities and their citizens to think about the role public works plays in creating a great place to live. By working together, the impact citizens and public works professionals can have on their communities is magnified and results in the ability to accomplish goals previously thought unattainable.

The 241 men and women of the Department of Public Works are responsible for maintaining and improving the City’s 1,227-mile street and 668-mile stormwater infrastructure networks.

Every year, APWA sponsors this week-long celebration in communities across North America, recognizing tens of thousands of public works professionals. Public works professionals build the infrastructure today for a sustainable and vibrant tomorrow so that future generations will enjoy an improved quality of life.
