Press Release

LAREDO – In a busy 72-hour period, Laredo Sector Border Patrol interdicts several human smuggling attempts at its checkpoints and apprehends 172 illegal aliens north of Laredo.

From January 23 through January 25, human smugglers attempted to use tractor-trailers to smuggle illegal aliens from the countries of Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras.  In each incident, the vigilance of agents along with Service canines foiled these attempts.

In all three events, a total of 172 individuals and drivers, all U.S. citizens, were placed under arrest pending further investigation.  U.S. Border Patrol seized the tractors and trailers.

Most of the individuals were not wearing any personal protective equipment (PPE).  They were all medically screened and provided PPE.  None required medical attention.

Despite the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, smugglers continue to show little or no regard for the safety of our Nation by indiscriminately smuggling criminals and convicted felons into the country.  Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents will continue to keep our country and communities safe from dangerous criminals as they strive to uphold the agency’s Core Values of Vigilance, Service, and Integrity.

To report suspicious activity such as alien and/or drug smuggling, download the “USBP Laredo Sector” App or contact the Laredo Sector Border Patrol toll-free at 1-800-343-1994.  If you see something, say something.
