BISHOP (News Release) - Bishop Police Department (BPD) Criminal investigators are investigating several incidents in close proximity to where vehicles were entered by unknown suspect(s) and property was removed unlawfully. In each of these recent burglaries, the victim’s vehicle was left unlocked.

Here are a few tips to help prevent being a victim of vehicle theft:

LOCK your vehicle always. Set any alarm or anti-theft devices. If you have one, use it! Many people believe that car alarms and locked doors don’t make a difference, but they can actually be a very strong deterrent to a burglar!

TAKE valuables with you. Do not leave valuables in your car. That sounds like common sense, but drivers and passengers are often distracted or in a hurry and leave items in plain view every day.

If you leave valuable items visible in your car, your car is automatically a target for vehicle burglaries.

HIDE valuables that cannot easily be removed. If you must leave valuable items in your car while out and about, place the items out of sight. Once home, unload your valuables immediately. Do not store valuables in your car longer than necessary, especially overnight.

Don’t think dark tinted windows will hide valuables left in plain view. Thieves often use flashlights to see through dark tint.

What to do if you are a victim of a vehicle burglary.

Call the police to report the incident as soon as possible.

Do not touch anything, do not clean anything up or go inside the vehicle. Doing so can cause valuable evidence to be compromised.

If you see suspicious persons or activities in your neighborhood, call the police immediately.
