KINGSVILLE - Kingsville Police Department reported on a social media post that officer Sherman Otto Benys Jr. has died of wounds that he suffered in a shooting on Monday.

The 19-year veteran policeman died during the early morning hours at Christus Spohn Memorial Shoreline Hospital in Corpus Christi.

“It is with great sadness that we inform our fellow officers, citizens, and friends that Senior Patrolman Sherman Otto Benys Jr. died during the early morning hours at Christus Spohn Memorial Shoreline from a gunshot wound received in the line of duty while responding to an incident in the 300 blk. of South Wanda on Monday, November 1st, 2021.”, Kingsville police department.

The suspect, Alfredo Deleon, is currently being held in Kleberg County Jail without bond.

Benys is survived by his wife, Vicky; daughters Breanne and Bailey; and his son Benjamin.
