INGLESIDE (News Release) - During the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 19, 2023, Ingleside Police Officers were dispatched to the Police Department after an Ingleside resident called 911 stating she was on the way to the Police Department due to another vehicle pulling up alongside of her near 2nd Street and Avenue H and shooting at her. The resident provided a good description of the assailant, the vehicle involved, and the direction he fled. The on-duty Sergeant began to canvas the area of the shooting and made contacted with several witnesses who confirmed the events described by the original complainant.

Ingleside Telecommunications Officer sent an attempt to locate on the described suspect and vehicle to all surrounding agencies. At that time, Ingleside Police Department learned the same suspect and vehicle had been involved in two other similar incidents earlier in the evening in Aransas Pass. Thanks to recently installed LPRs in Aransas Pass, the APPD provided our agency with a picture of the vehicle with the license plate that had been taken earlier in the day in their city.

Another call was received by our Communications Center relaying a suspicious vehicle that was causing a traffic hazard, as it was lodged in a ditch, and partially sticking out into the roadway in the 1900 block of 12th Street in Ingleside. The on-duty Sergeant arrived shortly thereafter and observed the vehicle matching the description previously provided for the incident near Avenue H and 2nd Street. Back-up Officers from the San Patricio County Sheriff’s Office and Aransas Pass Police Department quickly responded to assist.

The suspect who was standing near the vehicle was immediately taken into custody. The suspect identified as 29-year-old Kelvin Hart Dawe was outfitted in military style clothing and was found to be wearing ballistic body armor. The IPD Criminal Investigations Division responded to and processed the various crime scenes. The suspect vehicle was seized, along with other personal property found on the suspect’s person and in the vehicle. A handgun was also located in the vehicle and was collected as evidence in this case.

The suspect refused to answer any questions or cooperate with law enforcement. He was booked into the Ingleside Jail and later transported to the San Patricio County Jail. He is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a felony of the second degree. If convicted, Dawe could face 2-20 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $10,000.

In collaborating with neighboring agencies, Ingleside Police Department believe this may not be the only case involving this suspect.
