CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – The Corpus Christi City Council approved an ordinance accepting a grant in the amount of $346,991 from the Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Program Human Uses Team for improvements to the Hans & Pat Suter Wildlife Refuge. The Hans & Pat Suter Wildlife Refuge, located at 6001 Ennis Joslin Road, is a recognized park for bird observing and exploring the diverse coastal ecosystem of Oso Bay.

The grant will fund much-needed improvements to the asphalt trail and shoreline management to address erosion on the site's south side. The project is estimated to be completed by the end of 2025.

The trail will be resurfaced and converted to an ADA-accessible 8-foot-wide concrete trail. Trail enhancements will improve safety and resiliency to sustain inclement weather and improve accessible tourism and recreation.

Shoreline protection, along with relocating the trail further from the bay and implementing a living shoreline, will help stabilize and reduce further erosion. Improving shoreline protection with well-managed access areas helps reduce natural resource damage and maintains wildlife habitats.
